From towleroad:
"This is why kids need to be taught tolerance in schools. This is why kids need to be allowed to have children's books that teach them there are gay and lesbian people in the world, and it's okay. This is why numbskulls like Tennessee Rep. Stacey Campfield, who wants to ban anything in schools that teaches kids about homosexuality from kindergarten to eighth grade, endanger the lives of children rather than 'protect' them."
My eyes filled with tears when I read about this story in the LA Times. Its just so tragic. Where were the teachers during the days that lead up to this event? Did they look the other way? Did they think the kid was just an outsider and it was kids just being kids?
I remember being in 8th grade all boys choir class and being teased by all of them. Their ring leader would always ask me, "Billy, are you gay?" in front of the entire class. I would answer "no!" and everyone would laugh. My teacher never once addressed the issue. It was hell and lucky I got into high school and was able to move on. But this? A bully with a gun? How do u handle that?
