I didn't know how I felt about the Larry Craig interview last night but then towleroad posted this part on their blog:

Tom Shales at the Washington Post brings up some good points about this in his criticism of the interview:
"Craig himself brought up his voting record and said of homosexuality, 'I don't approve of the lifestyle.' Lauer should have followed up; why did he call it a 'lifestyle' and what about it does he disapprove of? At one point, reading from Craig's history, Lauer said the records included 'a guy who claims you 'cruised' him -- whatever that is.' This, it seemed, was Lauer's way of winking into the camera and saying, 'I'm not gay.' You hardly have to be gay in 21st-century America to know what the phrase 'cruising' means. It was even the title of a movie starring Al Pacino. Lauer needs to worry less about his own image and more about getting valuable information when conducting an interview. It seemed highly likely that Craig and his wife agreed to sit down with Lauer because they knew they had nothing, really, to fear."

My brother was the one with the COOL motorcycle (sorry rick). He also had this grand idea of selling, I think, water fillers in Arizona? The first person to take me skiing- when he was a lift operator in Denver. Ah, to be in your 20s.

Now he is married, has a beautiful wife and kids...and I think a pool. Domestic Bliss.

I've been up since 5am this morning. I'm unable to sleep. There has been a variety of things swirling in my head. I'm worried about my bills, not having any cash for the past two months, my AMEX/TCA dispute, NCO. Wondering if I'll ever make it out of my debt.

There's not any real conflict right now, its the potential of it all. The new job, Lucky's book, my pending dispute, the house cleaner, the vet visit.

I need a vacation. My friend Jacinda had her 30th birthday in Chicago. Her pictures were filled with so much fun and familiar faces from my UT years. I should have gone. Blah, no, had to be responsiable.

I've been feeling alittle stressed at work and in life lately. I'm thinking about getting these to help cheer me up (Found them on ebay for about 100 bucks!)

Sure I should spend the extra cash towards my remaining debt, save for my "I've just been fired because they finally realized I suck" saving account or our house/wedding..but maybe these are just what I need.

Plus if Lucky got a pair we could put on a show in central park and make some cash!!

Soft Moments

I've been looking at Microsoft Money way to much. This Friday will be my last payment on my debt management program but my credit card debt is far from over. Working with Microsoft Money I've figured that I will not be out of debt completely until Apr 2009. Trying to save for my wedding and create a emergency fund is also depressing me and proving almost impossible at my given income. The vet bill is going to be $400. Looks like if Lucky goes to Italy for his book there is no way I could afford to go. Our anniversary is coming up in October and my idea of us traveling is laughable. I came home from church today just sad and hopeless. Took a nap and then started cleaning the kitchen....

I just feel better once I start to clean. It clears my head and centers me. Took the laundry in and on the way back stopped into a flower shop. Sure it wasn't in my budget, that I had created, but I needed something to brighten my day. Just has I was paying for my flowers I hear the familiar sound of small paws and breath. Vishes followed by my best friend and partner, Lucky. He had stopped by to buy me a flower because he knew where my mind was and wanted to make me smile.

We sat in the court yard, drinking margaritas and he allowed me to fantasize about french doors and trips to an ice hotel. Later I talked to my mom and sis. Lucky cooked an amazing meal - steak and shrimp. As we watched Extreme Makeover, my eyes wondered over to the flowers. They looked prettier, more full, then when I first put them in that vase. I realized I was missing the point. Yes, I have big dreams and hopes for our future. But its these simple moments that I miss when I'm consumed about wanting something more. Our home. Vishes. A soft quite Sunday evening in front of the tv with Lucky. Good food and a coke float. Those flowers. Smile. I love you.

PS. Turns out Lucky had rearranged the flowers.

There is a scene where MJF picks up and throws a "Frisbie Baking Pan" into the air. Which inspired me to check if that was actually how the frisbie came about. Turns out it's true.

63 Days

The number of days left until I'm done with my debt consolidation program. I've decided to make a large payment this week to get me out sooner, rather then slowly pay it out over the next 6 months. I wish I could say that I would be completely out of debt, but not quite. I still have 6K on a card that my debt consolidation could do nothing for me (meaning, they couldn't lower the APR or any other benefit). I will also still have 4K on my checking plus with citibank- I didn't include that in my last post about my debt. So I'm still looking at being 10K in debt. The average American household has a mean cc debt of 5K , so I'm not that fall off.

Even with that in mind its still a very nice feeling to know that on Sept 14Th, the 388 that would normally go to my consolidation company will be all mine to do what I please with. I'm going to give myself 4 months (the number of years I was on the program) to spend the money that I would have put to my consolidation company each month on whatever I want as a reward to myself. I'm also going to FINAL start saving for our wedding day! wooohooo!!! After those three months I will put the money towards my other debt minus the savings money. This means however, I'm very poor at the moment. So in order to countner that, I've deceide to start counting the days and created a list of what I would like to spend the money on come sept 14th.

So far I have

Senate to Vote on Hate Crimes Bill

HRC put out this video to rise awarness of the Hate Crimes bill up for a vote in the Senate. Thousands of people are attacked every year because of their sexual orientation, and there's still no federal hate crimes law to protect them.

Arguments for hate crime laws tend to center on the notion that, when an offender has a biased motive, that offender’s crime should carry a more severe penalty because the injury suffered by the victim and by society is greater.

"Hate crimes do more than threaten the safety and welfare of all citizens. They inflict on victims incalculable physical and emotional damage and tear at the very fabric of free society. Crimes motivated by invidious hatred toward particular groups not only harm individual victims but send a powerful message of intolerance and discrimination to all members of the group to which the victim belongs. Hate crimes can and do intimidate and disrupt entire communities and vitiate the civility that is essential to healthy democratic processes. In a democratic society, citizens cannot be required to approve of the beliefs and practices of others, but must never commit criminal acts on account of them. Current law does not adequately recognize the harm to public order and individual safety that hate crimes cause. Therefore, our laws must be strengthened to provide clear recognition of the gravity of hate crimes and the compelling importance of preventing their recurrence. Marriage Equality Receives Stamp of Approval!

In a historic vote of 16 to 5, the New York State Assembly Judiciary Committee approved legislation that would grant same-sex couples full marriage equality in New York! The marriage equality bill was introduced by Governor Elliot Spitzer and sponsored by Assemblyman Daniel O’Donnell and Senator Tom Duane. This is a crucial step in achieving marriage equality in New York.

The Marriage Equality Bill will now move on to the Rules Committee where it is expected to be placed on the Assembly Docket.

Day three of my trip home. My soul becomes polished and renewed when I come home to all these memories and family.

Its funny how life outside NYC is so different. The moment I landed I could feel the energy slow down and see a more conservative idea spring up around me. I'm always amazing at the type of wealth in Sugar Land and specifically Fort Bend; from the huge homes with perfect lawns to the community of families with SUVs. This community has grown into a thriving center of new buildings and is the upper class mega center; with a median family income of 100,000 its not hard to see why.

My family has always been more interesting then its surroundings. I was always the kids with the oldest parents and had the most brothers and sisters in my class. The majority of my family grew up in Argentina and spoke Spanish fluently so I had a great deal of culture and diversity growing up. However if you ask my mom she would never say she was Mexican..even though her maiden name was Maria Juventina Gonzales!

As for "wealth", I never considered myself as having grown up as a "rich kid". There was always someone with a bigger house, car or whose family would take trips to exotic locations. But as I grow older I'm also getting wiser. Not everyone had a my father worked for Halliburton or grew up in a 2 story house with a pool and got a car at 16. Its about perspective, as my visits home become fewer and farther between I'm able to look at my childhood with more of it. "Rich kid" no, but definitely "spoiled" - yes.

Keep Bias Out of America's Health Decisions

Guess who President Bush wants to be the next U.S. Surgeon General?
Hint: His past writings indicate that he believes homosexuality is a "lifestyle" choice that should be "cured," and he has compared reproductive organs to plumbing parts.

His name is Dr. James Holsinger. And he's the man America might be depending on for sound medical advice.

Holsinger's record seems to demonstrate that he is uninterested in the best scientific information available; instead, he allows his anti-gay bias to inform his medical judgments.

How can we trust Holsinger to be America's top doctor, when his resume looks like this:

• In 1991 used basic plumbing analogies to write a "scientific and medical" paper arguing that homosexuality is unnatural and dangerous.
  
• Founded the Hope Springs Community Church, which reportedly has a special program to "cure" gays from "that lifestyle."
  
• Past writings indicate that he views sexual orientation as a "lifestyle choice." This could not be further from the view held by mainstream medical or scientific organizations.
  

That means that instead of hearing the usual warnings against smoking and drinking, America might be subjected to a new one that says, "homosexuality is unnatural and unhealthy!"
We can do something to stop Holsinger from becoming our nation's top doctor. I wrote my Senators, telling them to vote NO on his nomination.

The Senate needs to hear from as many of us as possible - so that they have no choice but to listen.

Lucky left on a 7:45 pm flight to London last night. He had less then 100 dollars in his pocket and a dream to chase. His publisher called him on Monday and told him that they would like to fly him out this week (crazy short notice but we had been waiting for this trip all year). Lucky was packed the minute his phone call ended and he even got a new haircut for the occasion! He'll be dropping off some negatives and looking over the organization of his book while he's out there. You can still buy a copy of his book at www.shelterbookcampaign.com.

I'm so proud and excited for him. I can only imagine what its going to be like, to meet fellow artist and gallery owners that want to show his art, his passion. Its truely an amazing thing for him and its only the beginning.

so i stole a seat on the only couch in trolley after my walk to and across the tower bridge and back and then introduced myself to the older gentlemen that returned from the toilet to reclaim his stolen seat. come to find out it was Phillip the photographer for whom this evening a special opening is being held. i then met 7 people from the BBC that came to interview him... they were all speaking Welsh and cerbo/croation. guess i have to learn it somehow.

Tuesday night my friend Corey was in town. It was his first day off from his reality series he's shooting in Fire Island. Long story short..we got into a drunken fight in Times Square with a guy who was pasting out fliers for the laugh factory. The guy pushed me because I drunkenly threw his fliers in the air after you gave them to me. I yelled and pushed him back, at which point Corey gets involved and punches the guy in the face (The guy called me a "faggot" which to Corey really sent him over the edge and I happily jumped off with him). I remember people trying to push us apart including the flier guy's body guard, who looked like he was an extra on the Sopranos. The body guard and flier man kept saying "Lets take a walk, and then I show you "F**KS" who the *A**, P**k, B*&%&^%" is!" ...Ah, NYC! Jackie and her bf finally pulled us from the whole mess.

Once inside a bar, Corey gets on my phone and calls/yells at the Laugh Factory receptionist. I go to the ATM to get money to buy MORE drinks (great idea). Then to make matters worst, we decide to go back to the spot. Jackie and bf were done with us (they being the sober ones). We go back, minus Jackie and bf, and this time we decide to take that walk with flier man and body guard. But as we are crossing Broadway and 47th, the guy apologizes for calling me the F word, Corey does the same for throwing a punch and just as fast as it started it was over. At least we gave the tourist something to talk about once they return home...

My friend Corey is on Fire Island this summer. He got a reality gig and is working as a Hotel Manager at one of the over priced hotels there. I love this kid, he goes from broke-ass to kick-ass in 2.5 secs every three months!

His lastest e-mail posted below:

"Hey Everyone,Sorry for the "everyone" email, but this is the easiest way to catch you all up on what is going on with me. If you haven't heard yet, I have left the city for the summer to do a reality show. It is a brand new show that hasn't even been picked up yet. This week we started shooting to complete the pilot to pitch to cable stations. It is a resort on an island and the staff is the cast. My job while I am here is to manage the one and only hotel here. There are bartenders, wait staff, etc. We all work here and are being filmed.

Just to give a quick update on how its been so far: I had to catch an 11am ferry last Sat. morning. The minute I stepped off the boat I was given the keys to the hotel and the madness began. Before I even got my room and put my things away, I threw my bags in my new office and got to work. I met the rest of the staff that was already here. I met my staff for the hotel. Since then I have been getting up at 5.30 to run on the beach with the most peaceful sound...the ocean. Amazing! During my work day, I do anything and everything from scraping walls, painting, assembling beds, ordering new furniture online for the rooms, writing rules and regulations, setting up the website for prices and info, fixing plumbing, cleaning, speaking VERY broken spanish to my cleaning staff (FRUSTRATING), and running around like crazy with a camera right there to capture it all.

My days end around 1am and by the time my head hits the pillow, I am out cold! Yesterday I finished my first two rooms and I am so proud of them. When building a room from the ground up, you really come to appreciate your accomplishment. I showed the owner and he said i exceeded his expectations and was very pleased. After a week of busting my ass, I needed that reassurance that I wasnt in over my head after all. You will be able to see my "interior designs" on one of the websites in the future.

Last night was my first night out with the rest of the staff. We went to another little town/resort about a 20 min walk away on the beach. After having a few drinks we started to head back and got lost and wandered around for about 3 hours. Once getting into the light, we all were covered in swamp and mud and twigs in our hair. YOU ALL WILL LOVE THAT EPISODE!!! I am sure that will be hilarious, cause we were all scared to death...should be great tv. They have the grossest looking deer here and they own the island. They will walk right up to you and around you and freak you out when you see one for the first time. Just standing on the boardwalks ready to eat your ear off...a little blair witchish at night, i must say.

Well, sorry this got to be long, but i wanted to fill everyone in and let you know i haven't forgotten about you all. I have just been busy settling in. There will be more to come and i cant wait for you all to see me online! Should be fun! Have a great summer whatever you decide to do, and keep in touch! Who knows! I'm too tired to get into this one..but basically I don't see the point. I'm no longer a dancer so why do something that is going to remind me of something I loved that I gave up to have a more stable life..I fight to many demons on a daily bases so why add fuel.

Luckys surpise party took a huge bite out of my budget so I was unable to make this goal this month. As a result, I have to push back our london trip back two months

call mom - missed

I took off for Lucky's birthday and so didn't have my regular 11am call with her

My Goals- part 2

Its a snowball effect. Tuesday I left work with the idea that I was going to a dance class, then I talked my way out of it, saying "wait, I need to walk the dog..thats one of my goals, I'll do that instead."

Then I didn't go to the gym on wednesday, didn't go to the dance class I said I was going to go to on thursday, went out drinking with my friends instead spending $66, drunk eatting McDonalds and passed out on my floor at 9pm (see lucky's blog for details)

Now its 1:43 am, just woke up and I noticed our dog is leaving little pee spots on our white carpet. And I more then likely will not go to the gym tomorrow. Snowball effect.

La persistencia de la memoria (1931) or The Persistence of Memory is quite possibly the most famous painting by artist Salvador Dalí. The painting has also been popularly known as Soft Watches, Droopy Watches, or Melting Clocks. It is currently displayed in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, where it has been since 1934.

Description
The well-known surrealistic piece introduced the image of the soft melting pocket watch. It's possible to recognize a human figure in the middle of the composition, in the strange "monster" that the same Dalí called the "paranoic-critic camembert": it's a head (probably a self-portrait of the artist). In general the tree means life, but, in this case, has the same function of the rest of the elements in the picture: to impress anxiety and, in a certain way, terror. The golden cliffs in the upper right hand corner are reminiscent of Dali's homeland, Catalonia.

A Great Day in Central Park

Bethesda Fountain is the central feature on the lower level of Bethesda Terrace overlooking The Lake in Central Park, New York. The pool is centered by a fountain sculpture designed by Emma Stebbins in 1868 and unveiled in 1873. Stebbins was the first woman to receive a public commission for a major work of art in New York City. The bronze, eight-foot statue depicts a winged angel touching down upon the top of the fountain, where water spouts and cascades into an upper basin and into the surrounding pool. Beneath her are four four-foot cherubs representing Temperance, Purity, Health, and Peace. Also called the Angel of the Waters, the statue refers to the Gospel of John, Chapter 5 where there is a description of an angel blessing the Pool of Bethesda, giving it healing powers. In Central Park the referent is the Croton Aqueduct opened in 1842, providing the city for the first time with a dependable supply of pure water: thus the angel carries a lily in one hand, representing purity, and with the other hand she blesses the water below. The base of the fountain was designed by the architect of all the original built features of Central Park, Calvert Vaux, with sculptural details, as usual, by Jacob Wrey Mould. In Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted's 1858 Greensward Plan, the terrace at the end of the Mall overlooking the naturalistic landscape of the Lake was simply called The Water Terrace, but after the unveiling of the angel, its name was changed to Bethesda Terrace.
